About the Event
In 2017, Out Boulder County partnered with the Boulder Police Department to launch their first LGBTQ Liaison Program. Over the years, that program grew and began to encompass as strong working group of local law enforcement agencies, all coming together to participate in meaningful dialogue. With a pandemic and change in personnel at local agencies, the program came to a halt in 2021. Out Boulder County is pleased to announce that in October, they received a received a grant from the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships.
Building on the previous success with engaging with members of law enforcement, this grant will help launch and support, The Pride in Safety Project, a new initiative being sponsored by OBC. The following are a few examples of what the project hopes to achieve:
- Building an online resource center and project hub - www.SafetyinPride.org
- Re-engage members of law enforcement enhance the previously launched LGBTQ Liaison Program
- Provide training to community partners, specific to community safety concerns, investigating bias-motivated crimes, victim support, and barriers to reporting
- Engaging in meaningful community workshops to learn about specific community concerns and provide reporting and safety resources
- Facilitate events for members of communities who historically have a strained relationship with law enforcement to engage with members of local agencies
- Through training, community engagement, and reporting, increase meaningful intervention and prevention of harm to members of all communities
